It's Time for Summer! 05/10/2011
It is hard to believe, but it is that time of year again. School is almost over and it is time to think about summer diving. I am attaching a summer dive schedule. The schedule includes practice times, meets, cost and information on reaching the coaches. The cost will be the same as last summer. The prices are as follows: Silver (Novice Divers) $200.00 Gold (Advanced Divers) $260.00 NOTE: If you are new to dive club, you will need to register with AAU Diving prior to your first day of practice. It is $12.00. The website is aaudiving.org Once there you will click on Join Now, then New Athlete. Our club name is Lubbock Dive club, our district is WT and our club code is WTDIT67KB1 We would like for you to pay for club during your first week of practice. If you are unable to pay the entire amount during the first week, we can set up a payment schedule to assist you. If this is necessary please see Coach Holly Lambert. Novice Divers Unfortunately, there are very few Novice meets in the summer. We are talking to other teams to see if anyone else might host one or come to one if we host it. I will keep you informed as we get more information. We may just have to host one in Lubbock even if it will be primarily our own divers. JO Divers We would like for all of our JO divers to attend the regional meet in Houston, Texas. The top 15 divers at the region meet will qualify for a zone meet. The top 12 from the zone meet will qualify for the United States Diving National Championships. From the feedback I have received from parents, it looks like we will go to the region meet in Houston and then skip the USA Diving Zone and National meets. Those qualifying for the AAU National meet will go to that meet. If we have divers who would like to attend the USA Diving Zone and National meets, they may do so. I will not be attending those meets; however, I have made an arrangement with the Mansfield Coach Jerry Smith. He will coach any of my divers at the USA Diving Zone or Nationals and I will coach his at the AAU national meet. I am aware that at times divers only want to attend the meets they can win. Winning is great, however, you have to learn how to compete at large meets with talented divers. You get better by competing with those who can push you to do your best. No one starts at the top; however, competing with the best and working to pass them will always take you much farther than staying in your comfort zone. The JO divers need to learn to handle the stress of big meets. June 10-12 US Diving Region Meet, Houston, University of Houston Pool (9th will be a workout day in Houston pool) JO ONLY June 24-26 – Corpus Christi Invitational, Corpus Christi NOVICE and JO, can attain AAU National qualification scores at this meet Zone C National Preliminary Meet, July 15-17, Dallas, TX @ SMU This is a Senior meet at this time Audrey and Adam Ruiz are the only divers with the degree of difficulty to attend. 2011 AAU National Championships, Riverside,CA July 19-26 (You only have to be there during your particular age group time. You will not be there all of those days. **We will try to add a Novice/JO meet with Hobbs and maybe Mansfield tentatively on June 4th or 18th **Novice meets to be added as they become available Add Comment Calendars 04/04/2011
Hello everyone, I am attaching the calendars for April and May. We will also get them on the website soon. Next week we only practice on Tuesday due to the National meet beginning their warm-ups on Wednesday. We still will get our practices in this month plus an extra one as is evidenced in the calendar. San Antonio Divers is having an invitational the last weekend of April. This meet is for any JO or Novice divers with enough dives to compete. No one has to attend this meet. If you would like to take a little "Diving Vacation" to San Antonio and participate, please let me know as soon as possible. We will only send a coach if we have 5 or more divers committed to attending. Thank you again and again, for all the help with the national meet. I know it has been quite a bit of work and I truly cannot thank you enough. Penny DiPomazio Aquatic Center Co-Director Lubbock ISD Head Dive Coach TISCA President It's Time! 09/07/2010
Hello everyone, Just a reminder that dive club begins tomorrow. The Novice group will begin at 5:15 and go until 6:15. The JO group will practice from 5:00-6:30. The September calendar has a couple of changes due to conferences that Coach Lambert and I attend. This week the JO divers will practice on Tuesday and Wednesday because I will be in Austin at the Texas Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association Conference on Thursday. The Novice divers will stay with their normal days of Tuesday and Thursday. Next week both the Novice and JO will practice on Monday and Tuesday due to both of us attending the United States Aquatic Conference in Dallas, therefore neither of us will be in Lubbock on Thursday. The September calendar is up on the website. Please remember to print it and keep a copy handy. This will avoid unnecessary trips to the Aquatic Center. Additionally, as was noted in an earlier e-mail, the divers must have a current AAU Diving membership. The memberships run from September 1st through August 31st. If you had one from the summer it is no longer valid. Please print an extra copy and have your diver bring it to practice. This enable us to allow your child to practice. You can go to aaudiving.org to register. We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow. July Update 07/06/2010

Hello Everyone, We are having a great summer. The kids did very well at the region meet. We would have taken all of our divers to the zone meet had we chosen to go that route. Coach Lambert tells me that the kids also did a great job at the Corpus Christi meet and had a really fun time while they were at it. Thank you very much for all of your support. We really appreciate it. Coach DiPomazio Hello Parents It is good to be back. There is plenty to do. First, I have a couple of very important updates concerning the upcoming competitions. If your diver is attending the JO Region meet in Dallas next weekend. You have very little time to register them without HUGE late fees. There are only 3 days and 19 hours left to register without a late fee. You need to go to www.divemeets.com to register as soon as possible. We will warm-up on Thursday, June 17th at 11:30 am. That is the earliest we can get into the pool. I do not want the kids to workout for 3 hours in the hot sun. I am hoping that we may be able to beat the rush of divers. If so, we will try to do both boards and then you will have time to enjoy your day. If the lines are long we may have to warm-up one board and then return late in the day and do the other board. You should remember to bring SUNSCREEN and a cooler with bottled water. Please remind your diver to drink water frequently through out their warm-up. If the divers wait until they feel thirsty to drink water, they will already be dehydrated and this is not good for their health or diving. Additionally, there is very little shade at this pool. In the past parents have brought a little canopy to set up and they all sort of had a place to get out of the sun and visit. I do not know if anyone has something like this, but if you do, it might be a good idea. You definitely should bring some chairs to sit in. In the past there has not been much seating either. We have not had a meet there in probably 5 years, so it may be different this year, but it is always good to be prepared. If your diver is going to the Corpus Christi meet. We need your forms by Wednesday. We have to make dive sheets for your diver and then we will mail them all together. They are to be there by the 15th of June. We will mail them on the 10th. | Coach D.Updates from Coach D. ArchivesMay 2011 Categories |
